Most founders assume scaling starts with a plane ticket, to Bangalore, to the Bay Area, wherever the real ecosystem is. Vishal Virani and Rahul Shingala built their company out of Surat, Gujarat instead. Not a startup hub by any definition. And it worked anyway.

The team behind DhiWise, now Rocket. Built out of Surat, Gujarat.
The Product Built Outside the Bubble
DhiWise, now rebranded Rocket, is an AI tool that turns designs straight into production-ready website and app code. No agency, no dev team required to go from Figma file to a live site. It is the kind of tool built by people who had felt the specific pain of watching a design sit in a queue for weeks before an engineer got to it.

The rebrand: DhiWise became Rocket, and the product moved to rocket.new.
Growing Without Ad Spend
Here is the part most founders skip past: DhiWise did not buy its way to attention. It grew almost entirely through community, developers referring developers on Discord, inside subreddits like r/web_design, word passed hand to hand through the exact audience that would use the product. Close to zero customer acquisition cost, at a scale most funded startups spend millions trying to reach.
The Numbers Before the Funding
By the time investors came calling, DhiWise already had over 650,000 users across 180-plus countries. The funding followed the traction, not the other way around: a $7 million Series A led by Accel, backing from India Quotient and Together Fund, and eventually a fresh seed round led by Salesforce Ventures as the company rebranded to Rocket and expanded to Palo Alto.

The Lesson for Funded Founders
Money is supposed to accelerate proof, not manufacture it. Rocket had the proof before it had the capital. The funding just gave it more room to run.
